I know a lot of people thought it was the wrong choice for a single, but I think it had a shot. Sadly, no promotion, no airplay, no hit. Maybe you also overlook the fact that any credit you might have earned for contributing to a certain Barbra Streisand album went elsewhere. I don't know if it was really ever put out there in so many words, but we saw the aftermath: a contentious return to form for "Living Eyes", and then three ensuing "solo" careers. My guess is Robin wasn't particularly happy with the direction of things. He sounds good in songs like Wildflower, Trafalgar, and the country ones like Country Woman. He was a heavy smoker, perhaps his voice was damaged by then? I don't think it was damaged; think there was some other reason for his voice sounding poor. Maybe his voice wasn't mixed properly on the soundboard? As for the millenium concert, the local PBS channel aired the Bee Gees's performance of "Alone" as part of their 2000 celebration, for which their mix of the song included a noticeably strong "backing vocal" from Maurice, singing along with Robin on his part of the song. Robin's vocal were barely noticeable as a result and anyone else watching that performance with that particular mix and unfamiliar with the song or the group, might've thought Barry and Maurice were the lead singers, instead of Barry and Robin.
