Lyrics could be better but still one the best songs of the entire Bee Gees canon. 3- I think Wildflowers would have done better than He's a Liar. If you remove Barry's unfitting falsetto from it, you get a classic beegee sound with a hint of Mo's admiration for Brian Wilson. The same thing could be said about You Know It's for You and Walking in Air. In the meantime, Barry and Robin are still debating about Mo's tribute. Where's the tribute album/concert? Where's "Too Much Heaven" with Paul McCartney? Instead, we had Robin releasing a truly disappointing live album (what a shame...) and Barry speaking about money in NY Times. I think that's really the most reasonable explanation. The Bee Gees formula was historically successful with either Barry or Robin (and later on, mostly Barry) at the proverbial "helm", and I think most of us have come to realize just how sharply those two personalities steered the group in whatever direction. Maurice laughed and smiled a lot about being the "Man in the Middle", but there was a lot of truth to the tongue-in-cheek references to being cast aside, ignored, dominated, etc. Barry and Robin talked after his death about him not liking the spotlight, but perhaps it was more about him never having a shot at it. I often wonder if they regret that now. For instance, Wildflowers would have been a good single in 1981. "Wildflower" is a good song, and when I heard it for the first time in the mid-80's, it was probably the first time I actually recognized what a true Maurice vocal sounded like. I don't know about its success as a single, though. Out of all the material on the "Living Eyes" album, I think the three singles chosen were probably the better bets. Mind you, maybe a single with a less familiar voice taking the lead would have been better for them at that point. He was the one who liked partying with rock stars in late 60s. He was the one who married the pop star Lulu. No Maurice, no Bee Gees. That's the least respect Barry and Robin should hold up for Maurice.
