The song was published, and presumably written by residents, in the UK and recorded in Germany. I've never heard of Cristal champagne. I'm not a champagne drinker, but I'm sure I'd still have noticed if Cristal was a well-known brand in the UK. In that case, my previous post, suggesting that he was unlikely to be referring to the drink, is probably quite wrong. I might have been more convinced about this if the writer had spelt it correctly! Some of her hits were written by the legendary Serge Gainsbourg. She had a huge hit with his composition "Les Sucettes". (=lollies) With the sweetest voice she sang about a girl and her favourite candy, not knowing that the lyrics were highly ambiguous, and were actually about something else....Years later France Gall was appalled when she found out what she had been singing about. Just an analogy to point out that It's not unthinkable that Robin didn't spot the reference to meth. On the other hand it's perfectly clear that you can sing a song about being intoxicated while being a teetotaler, as you can sing about soldiers in battle, while being a pacifist. A&B is definitely my favorite song among them. It's genuinely cheerful and there we have the late Mo singing lead. That's my guess - and with the R&B flavour of the song, check out this BBC news link. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/5056744.stm Drugs reference by Robin?? Nah !!!
