I initially thought that was the reasons for Robin's absence on much of the album, but then it later occurred to me that maybe he just became dissatisfied or bored with the album and left for England midway through the recording sessions. So you don't need it for the music, but it would be a nice Bee Gees conversation piece. The one difference is that to me the end of "The Only Love" goes right over the top, but it's so good up to that point that maybe I'll just issue them a warning. The lead songs originally had background noises from the Gulf War. As anyone knows, the Gibbs are not fans of the Bush administration. Also, this album was produced by Femi Jiya, who originally had worked for Prince and Lenny Castro is a much sought after percussionist with a heavy emphasis on Latin music. Its should be no surprise it went the way it did. I found "When He's Gone" to be a strong single that was promoted well. It just didn't have a strong enough hook or arrangement. The guitar solo is magnificent and the video has to be the best one they have done. "Happy Ever After" and "The Only Love" are obligatory ballads, but no less in quality. In fact, they are classic Bee Gees ballads. Of course, you can find all of this on Joe Brennan's GibbList site.
