My understanding is that the album The Bee Gees Sing and Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs (1964 or 1965?)is a collection of their Australian singles (with B sides)to that point, along with 3 new songs. Correct - but that doesn't make it an album in your view?? > The 1966 album Spicks and Specks was actually the "first" album in that it contained all new material (I think?) I have assumed Bee Gees 1st was their second album and first international release. Yes but they don't qualify the title "First" do they?? Chronologically "First" is their third album - what I meant by "effectively fourth" album is that all the material that was released on "Turn Around Look At Us" was actually recorded prior to "First" > If I'm wrong and misinformed please tell me. People interpret things in different ways - you choose not to recognise "Sing and Play" as an album, and I choose to include"Turn Around ..." as being pre-First as it was recorded before it - there again, you probably wouldn't recognise that as an album - more a collection of previously released songs. Whatever - "First" wasn't an appropriate title and no-one will convince me otherwise! It was supposed to be titled BEE GEES FIRST NON AUSTRALIAN ALBUM but when they contacted Klaus Voorman about the cover art, he said it would be difficult fitting all that into a circle in psychedelic lettering. This led to a long conference call between Stigwood and Ertegun about how much more to offer Voorman extra to make it less "difficult". Stigwood's handsome assistant finally said, "Oh just drop the last three words-- who's going to know?". The other story that I find harder to believe is that the title was accidentally changed from RUPERT'S WORLD'S FIRST and they decided to go on with the old Bee Gees name rather than have to re-print all the sleeves. When I heard Barry might appear I was like "Here we go again with the story of how the songs were not intended for the soundtrack ..." Even bet a couple of co-workers we would hear that story ... but we didn't so now I owe them lunch. Regardless I was still expecting to see Barry so when he didn't appear I was a bit confused. As a journalist ... I was trained to ask questions your interview subject is not expecting. Either that or wait a few moments before asking the next question to give the interview subject time to reflect. A great example of how this last scenario can work to the journalist's benefit iis by watching "Keppel Road", when Barry goes "Hair's not so big now folks ..." It's a textbook case of why you should wait a few beats before asking your next question and one I would use if I ever taught a class on interviewing techniques. It is one of the best moments of the documentary ... If I could interview a Gibb about the "SNF" songs, I think I would ask them to elaborate on how the songs came about, ( I am very fond of the line "Here in your arms I found my paradise, my only chance for happiness" from "More than a Woman" and would love to know more on how that came about ) rather than the same old same old of how the songs came to be in the movie ...
